 Romania   general information report is that : Romania, a slower developer than other former communist countries of eastern Europe, took a major step away from its past when it was one of seven countries to join Nato in late March 2004. Romania  strategic location and Black Sea air and naval bases make it attractive to the alliance. Former communists dominated politics until 1996 when a centrist Romania   came to power. Romania  became involved in prolonged political feuding which did little or nothing to promote economic reform. Failure to push ahead sufficiently with reforms meant that Romania  was not on the list of new EU members four years later. However, in April 2005 Romania  signed the EU accession treaty, paving the way for Romania to join the union in January 2007.

Security forces continue violation of human rights of prisoners and detainees. Prison and conditions of pretrial detention continued to violate human rights and remains poor. Violation of human rights by police corruption and impunity continues, and so are violations of human rights of women, children and minorities. Although some progress has been made towards the fight against trafficking in human beings, it remains a problem. Human rights of children to education and human rights of women to dignity as contained in the declaration of human rights are constantly violated by the police Romania   itself. Human rights child, the rights of persons with disabilities, human rights and housing, employment rights, human rights for refugees, human trafficking are violated on several occasions and there is no control over it by the Romania   and adequate redress system is not available.
